Die Regeln der IndianerThe rules of the Indians
Was er sagt, berührt viele Menschen. A text has been travelling the world for decades, under the name "20 Native American rules for life". What it says touches many people. Where it truly comes from is a more honest story than the title promises.
Why is it here then? Because the attitudes themselves are good, regardless of who first wrote them down. They fit everything this site means: that a beautiful world grows less from grand systems than from the way people treat one another and the earth. Here are the core ideas, freely summarised.
- Beginne den Tag bewusst.Begin the day consciously. Take a quiet moment for yourself in the morning before the day takes you.
- Achte alles Lebendige.Respect all living things. Menschen, Tiere, Pflanzen, Boden. People, animals, plants, soil. Nature is not there for us, it is a part of us.
- Rede nie schlecht über andere.Never speak badly of others. Worte formen die Welt. Was du über andere sagst, sagt zuerst etwas über dich.Words shape the world. What you say about others says something about you first.
- Höre zu Ende zu.Listen to the end. Let people finish and honour their thoughts, even when you do not share them.
- Sei gastfreundlich und ehrlich.Be hospitable and honest. Empfange Gäste mit dem Besten, was du hast. Und nimm nichts, was dir nicht gehört.Receive guests with the best you have. And take nothing that is not yours.
- Verletze keine Herzen.Do not wound hearts. The pain you sow finds its way back to you on winding paths.
- Halte dich in Balance.Keep yourself in balance. Body, mind, feeling and the stillness in you all want to be nourished equally.
- Geh deinen eigenen Weg.Go your own way. Make your own decisions and take responsibility for them.
- Vergib.Forgive. Every mistake can be forgiven, including your own. Resentment binds only yourself.
- Sorge zuerst gut für dich.Care well for yourself first. Only those who help themselves truly have something to give to others.
- Teile dein Glück.Share your happiness. Wealth and joy grow when shared, not when hoarded.
Was bleibtWhat remains
You do not need to put these sentences into the mouth of a distant people to feel their worth. Perhaps that is even the more beautiful truth: these attitudes belong to no one alone. They appear among the native peoples of America, in African Ubuntu, in Far Eastern wisdom and in the kitchens of our grandparents. Wisdom is rarely new. It only ever needs to be remembered and lived again.
